Abnormal AI Makes AI Governance Available as a Standalone Product

Organizations can now see and govern the AI tools, agents, AI chats, and spend across their business.

November 3, 2026

Las Vegas – November 3, 2026. Abnormal AI, the AI-native behavioral security company trusted by 30% of the Fortune 500¹, today announced that AI Governance is available as a standalone product following its unveiling as part of the Abnormal Platform in July 2026. For the first time, organizations can use Abnormal's behavioral AI to discover and govern the AI used across their business without first deploying Abnormal Inbound Email Security.

AI Governance gives security, IT, and governance, risk, and compliance teams answers to two of the questions boards and executives now ask most often: what AI is in use, and what it costs. It runs on the same Behavioral Security Platform that protects the email of more than 5,000 organizations.

Abnormal is applying behavioral AI to how AI is used inside the enterprise. Employees adopt new AI tools faster than approved lists can track, and AI agents often keep access to company systems long after the projects that created them end. Across AI Governance trials from the last three months, two of every three AI tools in use had never been approved by IT or security.

"Security leaders I speak with are focused on securing AI, and they're all asking the same questions: what AI is running, what can it reach, and what is it costing us," said Evan Reiser, CEO and Co-founder of Abnormal AI. "You can't govern what you haven't found, and you can't prove compliance for tools you didn't know existed. We built Abnormal on the idea that you can't predict bad, you can only know normal. Making AI Governance available on its own lets any organization apply that idea to AI, whether or not it uses Abnormal for email today."

AI Governance includes:

  • AI tool discovery: Identifies AI tools in use across connected environments and classifies tools as sanctioned, tolerated, or unsanctioned.

  • AI agent inventory: Finds agents across connected platforms and flags those that are dormant, orphaned, or overly permissioned, so teams can remove access that has outlived its purpose.

  • AI chat insights: Surfaces sensitive data shared with AI assistants, such as credentials, personal information, and financial data, including data inside uploaded files and images. Findings are ranked by severity so teams can focus on real exposure while ordinary work continues.

  • AI spend and compliance reporting: Consolidates AI subscriptions and invoices, including spend outside approved procurement, and maps findings to reference compliance frameworks to support audit and board reporting.

Because every Abnormal product runs on the same platform and behavioral model, customers that start with AI Governance can add Inbound Email Security, Identity Threat Protection, Infiltration Prevention, or other Abnormal AI security products seamlessly from the AI App Store in their portal.

"The findings that matter most are usually the ones nobody was looking for," said Stephen Harrison, VP of New Products at Abnormal AI. "Across our trials, we keep seeing enterprise AI applications that have run for months without the identity team knowing, dozens of agents still holding permissions on projects that ended, and passwords exposed in photos and files uploaded to chatbots. Customers can review findings like these from their own environment within about a week, and the conversation moves from what AI might be in use to what is actually happening."

Availability

AI Governance has been available to purchase as a standalone product since October 30, 2026. It is licensed per user, measured by mailbox as a proxy for user count. Existing Abnormal customers can activate it from the Abnormal AI App Store.
